Our Mangapapa school Curriculum AWA/RIVER
If you look at the cross-section of an awa/river you will see that water flows differently at different levels. Sometimes the flow seems faster at the top and slower on the surface and sometimes the speed of this flow is reversed.
Our Mangapapa School Curriculum and Teaching & Learning Approach is much like an awa/river as there are different layers of teaching & learning happening and often happening at once.
Our Mangapapa School Curriculum Awa/River (inclusive of our Teaching & Learning Approach) flows with three layers:
The Surface Layer: A focus on Information, Knowledge & Understanding (Learning to Know & Understand);
The Middle Layer: A focus on Thinking and developing the Competencies to Apply knowledge and information (Learning to Learn);
The Lower Layer: A focus on Values, Attitudes and Competencies (Learning to Be).
Like the banks and bed of an awa/river every Teaching & Learning Space channels and shapes MKids development, not just as knowers of facts and skills, but also the ability to apply this knowledge and these skills and especially the formation of important values, attitudes and competencies which lead each MKid to be a life-long learner and a positively contributing citizen of Turanganui-a-kiwa/Gisborne, Aotearoa/NZ and the World.
